November Activities for Kindergarten, First and Second Grade

November lesson planning comes with a special challenge: keeping little learners focused while their minds are already on turkey, pie, and a few days off!

You can put that seasonal excitement to work. A turkey disguise becomes a reason to write. A funny Thanksgiving story gives students something to summarize. A digital turkey hunt turns an ordinary afternoon into a classroom adventure.

My November Activities Bundle for kindergarten, first, and second grade brings together 12 resources to help you add fall fun to your lessons throughout the month.

Give Your November Writing Activities a Purpose

Sometimes the hardest part of a writing lesson is giving students an idea they want to write about.

Turkeys can help with that!

The bundle includes digital turkey disguise writing, turkey writing activities, and November writing prompts. These give students seasonal starting points for sharing their ideas.

Before students begin writing, try a quick partner conversation. Ask them to explain their turkey’s disguise or talk through their response to a prompt. Saying an idea aloud can help young writers get ready to put it on paper.

You can also model a response together before students work independently.

Connect Thanksgiving Read-Alouds to Reading Skills

Funny turkey stories are a November classroom favorite, and they offer plenty of opportunities to practice comprehension.

The bundle includes activities for Turkey Trouble and A Plump and Perky Turkey, along with a The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Turkey sentence activity and flip book.

Use these resources alongside your read-alouds to give students a way to respond to the story. The summarizing activities are especially useful for helping children focus on the important parts instead of retelling every detail.

Have your students practice explaining a summary to a partner before recording their responses. It’s a simple way to give everyone more time to think and participate.

You’ll need access to the books for the related literature activities.

Make Room for Fall Crafts

November is also a good time for a little cutting, creating, and writing.

The bundle includes a scarecrow writing craft and a Pumpkin Man fall craft. These offer a change of pace during a busy month and can become cheerful classroom displays.

Spread the work across more than one session if that fits your schedule. Students might complete their writing first and assemble their craft during another part of the day.

Try a Digital November Adventure

Looking for something different to add to your plans?

The digital Turkey Hunt escape room and pumpkin patch virtual field trip bring seasonal adventures into the classroom.

Consider scheduling one for a Friday or using it to connect with your fall learning. Preview the resource and its directions beforehand so you have everything ready for your class.

Use the Bundle Throughout the Month

You don’t have to fit every activity into Thanksgiving week!

Choose the resources that support what you’re already teaching. You might start with a fall craft, follow a turkey read-aloud with a summarizing lesson, and introduce a November writing prompt during your regular writing time.

The bundle also includes candy corn activities and fall no-prep printables, giving you more options to work into your November plans.
